Two Australian disc jockeys got laughs galore when they pretended to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles to fool nurses at a London hospital into revealing juicy details about pregnant Princess Kate’s condition.
But nobody was laughing Friday when one of the punked nurses suddenly dropped dead.
While Scotland Yard launched an investigation to determine whether Jacintha Saldanha’s death was a suicide, the dopey deejays were yanked off the air.
Both Kate and her husband Prince William registered their shock as what should be a cause for celebration — the fact that the princess is bearing a possible heir to the British throne — was marred by tragedy.
n a statement, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said they were “deeply saddened” by the nurse’s death.
St. James Palace, which speaks for William, added that it hadn’t formally complained about the way the hospital handled the hoax, nor did it blame the nurses for the deejays’ sick stunt.
